But with battery powered flashes becoming ever more powerful, it's never been easier to overpower the ambient and create great photos. In this video Gavin Hoey tests three portable flashes ranging from a small speedlight to a full sized 600ws studio flash, to see which performs best on location. But I plan to handle them carefully, and will consider a Yongbuo remote.Sky days can make for very bad location portraits, especially if you have to shoot in harsh sunlight. They’re powerful and packed with features. I love this unit and bought two of them (and a third to replace the one I broke). I understand that the YongNuo YN-622 and Pocket Wizard TT1 and TT5 will work (I haven’t tested them). But the unit will not shoot HSS with Flashpoint’s own R1 or R2 wireless triggers. Press the Mode and Set buttons together to enter HSS mode. The Streaklight will shoot in high speed sync (HSS) mode. Here’s the kicker: there is no repair service in North America, and your local repairman will have to work with no spare parts and no schematic. Not the flashtube something is arcing inside the head. I dropped mine about 18 inches onto industrial carpeting and broke it. Another reviewer said his head survived a 7-foot topple from a light stand. In short, it’s a joy to use, and a great price for what you get. Trigger it wirelessly with either the R1 or R2 receiver. Or take the reflector off and shoot bare-bulb. The head attaches to any standard Lumedyne accessory as well. It comes with a standard reflector and has available an umbrella reflector and a dome diffuser. The standard reflector gives a much softer light, too.Ī really useful feature is that it i s adjustable in a 6-stop range in 1/3 stop increments, from full to 1/128th power.

Since it has a physically larger flashtube, I’d expect it to heat up less than a speedlight with rapid flashes. Recycle time is under 3 seconds at full power.

Its guide number is 182 (in feet at ISO 100 with standard reflector). The Streaklight is a re-branded Godox Witstro A360. That is, *if* you only shoot horizontals and *if* you have a lot of faith in your camera’s hot shoe. You can shoot with it in a camera hot shoe (and one is provided, along with a separate foot with a 1/4x20 socket). It’s heavy for a speedlight: 27.5 oz /1.75 lbs/ 780 gm without battery pack. This flash fills a spot halfway between a speedlight and a monoblock.
